This is the opposite of procrastination, putting things off-it means doing things more quickly than necessary, such answering non-urgent emails as soon as they arrive. It usually is the result of wanting to get rid of the mental overload of having so much to do. Getting anything finished, even something unimportant, feels like an accomplishment. Precrastinators do get things done-but often at the expense of crafting of thoughtful or more useful replies and often in a way that prioritizes less important tasks over ones that take longer to accomplish. This can be especially tempting as we feel a need to stay busy during this time of social isolation with more time spent at home.
If you identify as a precrastinator, you might try telling yourself to wait a bit before tackling a non-urgent task…spend time gathering information before taking action.
Whether you are a precrastinator or a procrastinator, there are very specific things you can do to find a happy medium. If you are interested in knowing more about ways to deal with one of these modes of action, please feel free to contact me at 361-442-9590 or holtadams2002@yahoo.com.
