Tips For Managing Burnout If Working From Home

Although working from home has many benefits, there can be causes of stress as well. There can be distractions and other challenges.

Here are some tips to help you stay on track:

  1. Carve out a dedicated work space. Ideally a space that can help you avoid distractions or interruptions. If you don’t have a spare bedroom, you can carve out a space such as a dining room table or a desk in a corner of your bedroom.
  2. Stick to a routine. Just because you are not going into an actual office each day does not mean you should change your normal workday routine, Keeping a set schedule can help you stay focused and allow you to wind down and disconnect once the workday comes to an end. A schedule can help you maintain a healthy work/life balance.
  3. Break up the day. It’s important to remember to take breaks such as going for a short walk, standing up to stretch, running errands at lunch time, etc. These allow you to recharge and decompress throughout the day.
  4. Stay connected. Try to interact with your coworkers, etc. through video conferencing or instant messaging. Otherwise the working from home feels very isolating.

These are just a few suggestions to follow in order to keep burnout at bay. See above blog posts for burnout symptoms.

My office is still closed for in person visits but I am available by phone or email. I am hopeful that I can reopen my office for face to face appointments in the spring of 2021. By checking my website frequently, you will be notified when I reopen. Thank you for your patience.
