During this time of isolation and social distancing, it is easy to get bored, depressed and anxious. Here are some suggestions to help with the stress of isolation.
1. Watch movies; maybe pick some that are not in the genre you normally prefer. In this age of streaming perhaps you have Netflix or Amazon both of which have tons of movies to explore. Right now “Tiger King” seems to be at the top of many lists.
2. Learn a foreign language. There are many apps to download and many are free. I just downloaded an app called MosaLingua which is currently offering free lessons in Spanish, French, and other languages.
3. Make a to do list of things that you want to do when this isolation is over or even a list of things you can do around your house right now.
4. Play games either indoor or outdoor. There are many game apps plus other types of puzzles such as sudoku or crossword that are challenging for your brain.
5. Writing is considered one of the best ways to express yourself. It can be about something which you admire or about something simple that piques your curiosity or feelings of gratitude.
6. Be creative. Maybe there is something that interests you that will use your imagination. You will most likely have to use what you can find around your house or apartment. Perhaps you can find an adult coloring book at Walmart or someplace that is still open. For those of you who sew or knit now is an excellent time to create something new.
7. Surf the internet. You can research a topic of interest or find a new music artist on YouTube. There are many podcasts that are fun as well as informative.
8. Read which not only gives you knowledge but can entertain you. Perhaps you can’t get to a bookstore but you can use your device like a Kindle or Ipad to download books. You can also order from Amazon.
9. Try out a new recipe or cook something with the ingredients you have. There are many ways to learn how to cook and you can still go to the grocery store in most places to pick up what you need. You can also plan what your first meal will be when this quarantine is over.
10. Walk or ride. We need to get outside and exercise as long as we practice social distancing. We can drive somewhere to see the wild flowers or just to be out in nature. If you have a home gym or equipment now is a good time to use it. There are also many online exercise programs.
These are strange and uncertain times but we will get through to the other side. I am still offering life coaching sessions over the phone. If you think I can help, please call at 361-442-9590 or email at holtadams2002@yahoo.com
