Ways to Combat Your Mind’s Negative Chatter

What are some ways to challenge your mind’s negative talk?

Zoom Out–thinking of your situation from a broad or historical perspective can help you see that others have found solutions. Use the second person–referring to your self as “you” preserves a certain distance from your woes, allowing you to advise yourself as you would a friend. Reframe your experience as a challenge. “You can do this” makes you feel less like a victim. Make your bed–restoring order to your physical environment can give you a sense of control. Experience awe–the night sky, a work of art or a piece of music can pull you out of your narrow focus and readjust your perspective.

We all have negative thoughts from time to time; the trick is in how to extricate yourself from thinking obsessively. Life coaching or hypnosis might be able to help with negative thinking.
