Walking and Memory

According to an eight year study by Borja del Pozo Cruz, Ph.D., adults who walked 3,800 steps daily for almost three years had a 25% lower risk for dementia. Those who walked 9,800 steps per day had a 50% lower risk. Walking faster proved to be even better. For those who walked 9,800 steps per day including 30 minutes at 112 steps per minute (about 3 miles per hour) were 62% less likely to be diagnosed with dementia. This was reported in JAMA Neurology.

Walking has proven to provide many other health benefits from cardiovascular health to weight loss and mental health. Even if you just walked from your house to the end of your block and back you might feel better overall. You might also meet your neighbors!

Consider a walking program as part of your daily routine. I don’t think you will regret it.
