In the next few weeks I will be talking about some hidden stressors and possible solutions. One common stressor is stressful texts and emails. We get so many of these daily; robocalls, unwanted texts, emails. These media induced stressors can trigger anxiety, anger, and annoyance. Even happy texts can create stress when you hear the ding on your phone.
Of course you can unsubscribe and turn off notifications and limit your time reading or watching upsetting news. Not every one can do that given the nature of one’s business requirements. One way you can balance things is to walk outdoors focusing on being in green spaces weather permitting. Just looking at the sky and breathing deeply may be a solution for some folks. Also choosing a piece of music that is meaningful and keeping your thoughts focused entirely on that music will help steer your stressful thinking away from the source of anxiety.
If you are able to enjoy some nature, Mary Carol Hunter recommends that you spend 20 minutes a day sitting or strolling in a green space. This action can significantly reduce the stress hormone cortisol. The time of day does not matter as long as there is some daylight. This can be a low cost solution for some folks who have access to the outdoors.
