Anxious People Are Prone To Misremembering

Did you know that anxious people are prone to misremembering? People with the “anxious” attachment style-marked by fear of rejection by those closest to them-are more likely to remember details of conversations incorrectly.

In a recent finding compared with those with other personality types, those with attachment anxiety who watched a 20 minute video of a person relaying information more often inserted false recollections of what was conveyed in the conversations. Interestingly, this did not happen when they read the same information or listened to an audio of the information. One possible explanation is that when the attachment anxious people see another’s face , they may hyperfocus on nonvisual cues and also misinterpret those cues confusing their own thoughts and feelings with what was actually said.
