Play is not the opposite of work–it is a way to be creative and innovative. It is something to which you are naturally drawn; that you find enjoyable; where you tend to lose track of time while doing it; and that encourages creativity and spontaneity. It’s main motivation is enjoyment of the activity itself not for external rewards or goals. Play is associated with joy, curiosity, and a sense of flow.
How do you get more play in your life? Think about your preferences for playing and how to get more of that in your life. Prioritize playful activities; take time away from technology and focus on outdoor activities. Be open to trying new things and create play focused rituals, such as regular game nights.
