Using Mindfulness to Combat Stress

Feeling stressed out? You can try the following mindfulness strategies:

  1. Eat mindfully…Enjoy your family’s or your culture’s food traditions…use special occasion dinnerware more often. Take time with each bite to experience flavors, textures, and smells.
  2. Become deeply involved in music. Choose a piece of music that you find meaningful, and while listening, focus entirely on the music, pulling your thoughts back to it if they wander. Let your body respond–perhaps by moving or closing your eyes or by feeling joy or experiencing stillness.
  3. Immerse yourself in nature. Walk outdoors, focusing on being in green spaces and looking at trees. Weather permitting, sit or lie on your back in a place with a good view of the sky, and breathe deeply as observe the atmosphere–focus on your breath and on your part in your surroundings.

Self hypnosis is also a great tool to manage stress. Generally speaking it only takes one session to learn to cope with stress. If you are interested and want more information, please give me a call at 361.442.9590 or email at I respond quickly on the same day.
