Hypnosis for Weight Loss

One of the most common requests I receive is the use of hypnosis to lose weight. In order for hypnosis to be successful, the reasons behind excessive eating need to be uncovered. This can be done through journaling before the client comes in or these can be uncovered in the hypnosis session itself.

What are some of the most common reasons for overeating?

1. Eating to reward or entertain yourself. Food as a reward starts occurring very early in life when food rewards were very common such as getting a cookie for cleaning your room.

2. Eating as a way to lessen or negate an unpleasant experience. Again this could have started when you were very young such as a pacifier when something bad happened or caused pain.

3. Eating because you want to be noticed or to gain authority. You do recieve attention for being overweight although it may be negative attention.

4. You eat when you need love. You eat when what you really want is for someone to smile at you, give you a kind word, touch you, give you a hug. Without this some people turn to food for comfort.

5. You eat because your are afraid. Perhaps you are afraid of sexual attention so you try to make your self physically unattractive by becoming bigger physically. Or perhaps you identify good health with being overweight as skinny people look unhealthy.

This is not intended to be an exhaustive list.

These are all emotional reasons for overeating and may not be apparent to the conscious mind. Hypnosis can help uncover these reasons and then tailor suggestions to the specific reasons for which you overeat.
